Metaluxe tile install on a kitchen backsplash. These tile have a metal coating on them with a brushed swirl finish. The tiles can be cut on a normal tile wet saw with care. In this installation the kitchen wall had a slight deflection in it so to achieve a perfectly flat surface the tiles were installed using the mud set method. The tiles are 6"X24" and are rectified, this means the tiles have been cut down on all four side to make the tiles dimensionally more accurate. With the tiles being rectified we are capable of installing them closer together because of the tiles tighter tolerances. When installing tile closer together without a cushioned edge there is no room for any variation of the substrate, therefore the only way to achieve a lippage free tile installation is to mudset it. With the metal finish on the tiles, the manufacture only recommends using a unsanded grout to eliminate scratching the surface with a sanded grout. Before having a tile contractor install these tile make sure to check their qualifications and references because a mistake could become very costly due to the tiles costing approximately $80.00 each material only.
